Garbage Disposal FAQ

A humming disposal that does not spin is almost always a jam — something is caught in the grinding chamber preventing the impeller from turning. In many cases this can be cleared quickly using the reset button and an Allen wrench in the bottom port. If the motor has burned out from being jammed too long, replacement is typically the right call. We diagnose and clear jams on the same visit, and can replace the unit the same day if needed.

Generally: if the disposal is under 5 years old and the repair cost is less than half the replacement cost, repair makes sense. If the disposal is 8–12 years old, has a history of problems, or requires an expensive motor replacement, a new unit is often the better investment. We give you an honest assessment — we do not push replacements when a repair is the right call.

Yes — we can add a garbage disposal to most existing kitchen sinks. This involves installing the mounting assembly under the sink, connecting the discharge line to the drain, and ensuring an electrical outlet is available under the sink (required for the disposal motor).
